For over 60 years we have been blessed to raise our family on this farm, and we are proud to share it with the community! We invite you to learn how we got our start and how God has guided our steps throughout the years. Faith, family and community are at the heart of all we do. Thank you for supporting our family farm and small business.
The Rohrbach, Brecht and Bosworth Families
In 1955, Adali Rohrbach (1st generation) purchased the farm. His sons George Rohrbach (with his wife Margaret) and Carl Rohrbach (2nd generation) opened Rohrbach's Farm Market as a self-service roadside stand.
In 2013, Dan and Denise (Rohrbach) Bosworth (4th generation) returned to the farm during the summer to begin a new venture, Big Dan's BBQ, a roadside BBQ stand. Based in the Philadelphia area, their plan was just to spend their summers making delicious BBQ at the farm. After a successful first year and admittance to the Bloomsburg Fair they decided to move their family back to the area, where their BBQ is served to the market customers from their food truck.
2015, brought the most growth and changes throughout the farm and market. Mark Rohrbach (4th generation) took ownership of farm operations. The farm primarily produces apples, peaches, cherries, strawberries, field corn, soybeans and pumpkins. To encourage healthier field crops, Mark has incorporated innovative farming with cover crops that lead to greater soil health and more sustainable agriculture. Mark now owns & operates Soil Bound LLC. Dan and Denise now operate the farm market.
In 2020 we successfully relocated our gift area to our main floor as well as Freas Farm winery expanding their footage, also in our downstairs. We had just as much outside transition to tackle too. New apple, peach, plum and a few nectarine trees were planted in 2020 to replace aging fruit trees. In 2022 we started to see the first production on our new fruit trees. We will continue to do our best to adapt to changes, both within our control and out of our control. It doesn't change who we are at the roots of our family and business.
In 2021, Big Dan's BBQ opened inside the barn loft, out of the elements and allowing us to be to open more days. This expansion has been met with rave reviews for the venue as well as the food. When the weather is ideal, guests can also take advantage of fresh air and sunshine and sit outside on our picnic tables.
We frequently host family-focused educational and entertaining events and festivals throughout our open season. Our calendar is full of activities as family and community is at the heart of all we do.
We believe our family, business, wonderful employees, and community are all blessings from God. Through the seasons of life He has sustained us. There are 18 kids in the 5th generation, and though some are only visitors when in the area, they enjoy getting their hands dirty with their cousins at the farm!
Even though a new generation has assumed ownership, Ron and Cathy Rohrbach and Harold and Kay (Rohrbach) Brecht are all close at hand or involved in various aspects to one degree or another. Ron helps maintain the fields and orchards and lends wisdom and wise counsel from his years of experience . Cathy enjoys helping with the grandkids most of all, and stays active in her ministry to so many people in our community. Kay leads the apple dumpling production and has a diversity of roles in The Market and Bakery. Harold is now retired from his full time job and lends a hand often anywhere on the farm from delivering seed to delivering apple dumplings and so much in between.
We look forward to having you visit our family & business throughout the many years God will allow us to steward this land and serve the community!
Love, the Rohrbachs!
